National Rooftop Solar Portal Migrates To PM Surya Ghar Portal National Rooftop Portal Migrates To PM Surya Ghar Portal

Days after the announcement of PM Surya Ghar-Muft Bijli Yojana, the Union government has migrated the National Rooftop Solar Portal to the new website of PM Surya Ghar Yojana. The newly launched website offers the most features and options in the National Rooftop Solar Portal.

The new portal, however, has offered higher subsidies for this segment. The revised subsidies shown in the new portal of the PM, Surya Ghar scheme, are higher than the increased subsidies announced by the MNRE in January this year. For example, while the MNRE announced increasing the residential rooftop subsidies (upto 3Kw) to Rs 18,000/Kw, the new PM Surya Ghar scheme announced an increased subsidy of Rs 30,000/Kw.

Moreover, similar to the older Rooftop Solar portal, the new portal also has listed the names of financiers who can lend loans to rooftop solar consumers for new connections. It also tells the consumers about the different financing options and the interest rate these financiers charge. Around 18 such financial institutions, including banks and NBFCs, offer rooftop solar loans.

The portal also allows features like calculating the magnitude of solar panels required by different households based on the average energy consumption. It also allows a digital calculator to calculate the total subsidies the consumer can avail of.

Besides the consumer-centric services, the portal also provides data on the total number of vendors in each state. As per the list, Gujarat leads the chart with a total of 4,682 vendors. The portal said that Uttar Pradesh has around 3,177 vendors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, earlier in January 2024, announced the PM Suryodaya scheme, where he talked about extending rooftop solar systems to the households of 1 crore Indians. Later this month, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman talked about 300 units of free electricity. Later PM Modi gave detailed information on the new scheme named-PM Surya Ghar where he talked about increased subsidy, launch of new portal for application for residential rooftop solar and other details.
