MNRE Directs Wind Turbine Makers to Update Certificates, Ensure Component Traceability
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)’s wind energy division recently issued a notification mandating wind turbine manufacturers to update their Type Certificates within three months. This would ensure greater transparency and traceability of wind turbine components in India, helping regulators and buyers know exactly where parts originate.
It aims to clarify the amendment to Procedure for Inclusion/Updating Wind Turbine Models in the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers of Wind Turbines (RLMM)” dated July 31, 2025.
The latest norms mandated compliance with the new amendment and also required manufacturers to submit official confirmation from the certification body regarding the location of the turbine’s key components (manufactured/sourced).
Background
This announcement comes a month after the government amended clause 4(h) of the procedure in August 2025. In that notification, the new ALMM norms for wind were demanded to share details of the vendors/sources for blades, towers, generators, gearboxes, and special bearings (main, pitch, and yaw bearings) while applying for the enlistment of wind turbines under the latest ALMM (Wind).
MNRE has also previously revised the procedure for the enlistment of wind turbines in India. It also renamed the enlistment list from the Revised List of Models and Manufacturers of Wind Turbines (RLMM) to the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM-Wind).
The revised norms required details of the vendors/sources for blades, towers, generators, gearboxes, and special bearings (main, pitch, and yaw bearings) while applying for the enlistment of wind turbines under the new ALMM (Wind). That notification also reinforced provisions for boosting the cybersecurity ecosystem in the sector. This included mandating that data centres and servers be located in India, with all data pertaining to wind turbines stored and maintained within the country.
