SWITCH Mobility, the electric vehicle arm of India’s Hinduja Group, has delivered the first 10 units from a 100-bus order to the National Transport Corporation (NTC) of Mauritius, part of a government-to-government gift from India.
The fleet of SWITCH EiV12 electric buses was formally flagged off in Port Louis on Thursday in the presence of Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Land Transport Minister Osman Mahomed, and Indian High Commissioner Anurag Srivastava.
Designed For Urban Routes
Built at SWITCH’s manufacturing plant in Chennai, the 12-metre buses are designed for urban routes and can seat up to 45 passengers. The vehicles feature lithium ferro phosphate batteries, real-time telematics via the company’s SWITCH iON platform, and safety systems including fire detection and suppression.
“This is a key milestone that brings our ‘Make in India, for the World’ vision to life,” said RG Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer of SWITCH Mobility. He said the partnership supports Mauritius’ push for sustainable public transport and cleaner cities.
Open Tender
The order was awarded through an open tender by Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) in India. Once in service, the buses will be operated by the NTC, the state-owned public transport provider.
SWITCH Mobility, which has put over 1,250 e-buses on the road globally, is targeting overseas markets as part of its expansion strategy. The company has clocked more than 150 million electric kilometres worldwide and also manufactures electric light commercial vehicles.
