Luminous Commissions 500 MWh Lithium-Ion Battery Assembly Line in Himachal

Luminous Power Technologies has commissioned its first lithium-ion battery assembly line in Baddi with a capacity of 500 MWh. The facility supports BESS, residential, C&I, and e-rickshaw applications.

Luminous Power Technologies has inaugurated its first lithium-ion battery assembly line at Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, marking a key milestone in the company’s efforts to strengthen its advanced energy storage capabilities. The new facility aligns with Luminous’ long-term strategy to adopt next-generation energy solutions and enhance its manufacturing footprint in India, the company said.

The lithium-ion assembly line has an installed production capacity of 500 MWh and integrates advanced robotic automation with precision-led manufacturing processes.

Focus on Integrated Manufacturing and Supply Chain

The company stated that the new line enhances its ability to serve multiple energy storage segments through a localised and technology-driven manufacturing approach.

Applications Across BESS and Electric Mobility

The assembly line is capable of manufacturing standalone lithium-ion battery packs, stationary Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and automotive battery packs for e-rickshaw applications. It supports battery capacities ranging from 1.2 KWh to 16 KWh for single packs, with system-level scalability extending up to 1 MWh.

These specifications enable deployment across residential, commercial, industrial, and electric mobility use cases, the company said. The facility also incorporates end-to-end digital traceability for each battery pack, aligned with the latest Battery Aadhaar requirements, allowing lifecycle-level tracking and strengthening regulatory compliance and transparency.

Luminous said the operationalisation of the facility strengthens its positioning as a full-stack consumer energy fulfilment company, aligned with India’s transition towards cleaner and more efficient energy systems.

Luminous operates seven manufacturing facilities across India. The company stated that it currently powers over 100 million Indian homes and has a presence in more than 40 international markets.
