Leeward Closes $162.9 Mn Financing for Wind Farm in Colorado

GE Renewable Energy Wins Turbine Order for 300 MW Wind Project in Gujarat

US-based independent renewable energy power producer Leeward Renewable Energy (Leeward) has completed USD 162.9 million financings for its 170 MW Mountain Breeze wind farm in Colorado.

Leeward is owned by OMERS Infrastructure, the infrastructure arm of one of Canada’s largest defined benefit pension plans.

Further, the company will develop, own and operate this wind energy project and has signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Xcel Energy Colorado to provide clean energy generated by the project.

Mountain Breeze wind farm, which utilizes GE’s 2.3 and 2.82 wind turbine generators, and installs 62 machines at the site, is expected to be completed in December 2020.

The company, which is having an operating portfolio of 1.7 GW wind generation, has already started the construction of the wind project and has received positive support from the project landowners and members within the community.

During its construction phase, the project farm is expected to generate approx 250 jobs and will increase its contribution to Weld County in the form of property tax payments.

Commenting on the financing deal, Jason Allen, who is the Interim CEO of Leeward Renewable Energy, said that “the financing of this wind farm marks an important milestone for Leeward.”

“The continued investment from our financial partners allows us to provide our customers with a sustainable and clean energy alternative. Mountain Breeze is a great asset to our expanding renewable energy portfolio and will create significant benefits for our customers and Weld County,” Allen added.

Meanwhile, the company has under construction an additional 395.2 MW of wind generation projects, and a development pipeline of more than 1 GW wind, solar and energy storage projects that provide a solid foundation for the continued growth of the business.
