Khavda: NTPC REL Issues EPC Tender for 100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow BESS
NTPC Renewable Energy LIMITED (NTPC REL) has issued a tender offering an EPC PACKAGE to develop a 100 MWH Vanadium Redox Flow BESS project at Khavda Solar Park. It aims to develop a grid-connected 16.7 MW/100 MWh of Vanadium Redox flow-based Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on a turnkey basis. It's accepting bids for this project till December 19, 2025.
The latest NTPC REL tender follows the inauguration of a 3 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery (VRFB) for long-duration energy storage (LDES) at NTPCs NETRA campus in Noida. VRFB batteries offer a promising long duration storage solution for India, with some local firms like Delectrick and Vflowtech already making real progress. Delectrik in fact executed the 3 MWh project for NTPC earlier in association with Rays Power Infra. A larger tender offers an opportunity for firms to not only find commercial scale but also demonstrate the viability of VRFB batteries even more strongly.
Scope of Work
Under the scope of work, NTPC REL requires the bidder to provide all equipment, components, and services necessary to install a fully functional BESS.
NTPC REL in the tender mandates the bidder to undertake the EPC work, including designing, engineering, supply, Packing and Forwarding, Transportation, Unloading, Storage, Installation, and Commissioning of the project. The tender requires the bidder to obtain site-specific data from the owner in preparation for developing installation and implementation plans.
The work of the NTPC REL also includes designing, engineering, supplying, packaging, forwarding, transportation, unloading, storing, constructing, erection, testing, and commissioning of a grid-connected 16.7 MW/100 MWh Vanadium Redox Flow-based Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on a turnkey basis.
The designed life of the BESS system, including the battery, shall be 25 years from the date of successful commissioning. Comprehensive Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of the BESS system for 10 years from the date of successful commissioning will be within the scope of the bidder.
A grid compliance study, reactive power compensation, and power quality compliance for the entire BESS system up to the 400 kV grid interconnection point at the NTPC REL project switchyard will also be within the scope of the bidder.
