Khavda: NTPC Green Commissions 288.9 MW Solar Projects By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Mon, Jun 30th, 2025 Highlights : The projects follow the trend of developers rushing to complete projects before the June 30 deadline for 100% ISTS exemptions. Future projects will get 75% exemption, before progressively reducing to zero by 2028. Khavda: NTPC Green Commissions 288.9 MW Solar Projects NTPC Green Energy Ltd, the renewable energy arm of India’s state-run power utility NTPC Ltd, has commissioned two solar power projects in Gujarat’s Khavda region with a combined capacity of 288.9 megawatts (MW), the company said in a regulatory filing. The company declared commercial operations of 142.2 MW from its 300 MW Khavda Solar Energy Project, part of the 450 MW Hybrid Tranche V being developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd (NTPC REL), a step-down subsidiary of NTPC via NTPC Green. In addition, 146.7 MW was commissioned as part of the second phase of the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project. Both phases were declared commercially operational on June 28, 2025. NTPC REL has been expanding its renewable capacity in Gujarat. In May, it fully commissioned the 150 MW Gujarat Solar PV Project at Limbdi, declaring the final 60 MW operational. The project was awarded under the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) 500 MW Solar Phase XII tender. Earlier this month, NTPC Green also brought online 110.25 MW as the first phase of the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar Project, developed by NTPC REL. The projects are part of NTPC’s broader target to reach 60 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity. Hybrid Power Project Awarded to NLC India Separately, NTPC has awarded a letter of award to NLC India Ltd to develop a 450 MW interstate transmission system (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid project. The project will be split across two locations—300 MW in Bikaner, Rajasthan, and 150 MW in Bhuj, Gujarat. The power generated from the project will be supplied to NTPC, with full commissioning expected within 24 months from the effective date of the power purchase agreement, the company said.
