Khavda: Adani Green Subsidiary Commissions 50 MW Hybrid Project

Adani Green Energy Ltd’s subsidiary Adani Renewable Energy Three has commissioned a 50 MW solar-wind hybrid power project at Khavda in Gujarat, the company said in a regulatory filing.

“With the commissioning of the Gujarat plant, AGEL’s total operational renewable generation capacity has increased to 15,865.5 MW,” the filing stated.

Backed by increasing capacity additions, Adani Green recorded a 42% year-on-year growth in energy sales, reaching 10.5 billion units in the quarter.

Asked about the company’s procurement approach for future projects, Raj Kumar Jain, head of business development at Adani Green, said: “It depends on the buyer and the seller. Many want to do a 10-year or 15-year contract, because that’s the kind of visibility they see in their industry. The risk-adjusted value, which comes to both sides, needs to reflect that. And that’s what happens in some of these contracts.

“The spot market is there as well, and there is nothing as a contract. They will secure some short supplies. We are there in that market too. The pricing reflects the tenure in that case. All of that is a trade in a B2B market,” he said. “As a company, we are ready to take that exposure, and that’s why we are saying 25% of the capacity will be available in merchant exposure, C&I, CFDs, or mixed hybrid contracts,” Jain added.

Monsoon Affected Wind CUF 

Chief executive Ashish Khanna said the increase in wind capacity utilisation factor (CUF) took into account the availability factor.

“In Q1, availability is lower because of a six-month maintenance schedule for many of our turbines. Preventive maintenance systems also impact overall availability in that quarter. We must be ready for the high wind seasons,” he said.

Asked if CUF figures were adjusted for availability, Jain said: “Yes, it is adjusted for the availability factor. Ahead of the monsoon season, all wind turbines in the country are overhauled so they perform better in the real wind season, which comes during the monsoon.

“That is why availability in this period is slightly lower. Even the best benchmarks for wind, because it is moving equipment, have an availability factor of around 96 to 96.5% for the full year. Turbines need more maintenance than solar plants, where availability can be as high as 100%.

“Mathematically, if you had not taken any maintenance or upkeep shutdown, the CUF would have been higher,” he said.
