Green Stocks July 21: Acme Solar, Borosil Headline Challenging Day For Green Stocks

The broader Nifty and mid-cap index climbed up, while the small-cap index was a surprise laggard today. That was enough for Acme Solar and Borosil Renewables to play catch-up, as both logged healthy gains on the back of hopes from their higher focus on storage and the Indian market, respectively. 
Getting hurt today were Waaree Energies and Waaree RTL, the former due to possible US moves to target Indian solar exporters,  while Waaree RTL bore the brunt of a 125 MW project getting cancelled in Assam.

A somewhat surprising drop was seen in SW Solar, or Sterling and Wilson  Renewable Energy, which slumped despite Q1 results on expected lines. As we have reported on the firm, the continued issues with promoter liabilities of its erstwhile promoters, the Shapoorji Pallonji group and Khurshed Daruvala, seem to be acting as a drag on the stock now. Besides the lack of any action from the key stakeholders, Reliance. But things could change quite quickly for this stock, considering the clear competencies the firm has been building in the storage space as well. 

Most of the rest of the pack moved based on market flows, but the broader story of moves based on hard facts and numbers over narratives remains. As more and more results come in and investors get to hear about commentary from these firms, we believe savvy investors will be better placed to form long-term views on many of these stocks. Assuming minimal impact from events like the India-US trade deal or the lack of it, of course.
