JSW Signs BESS Pact With Rajasthan Utility for 250 MW Project By Junaid Shah/ Updated On Wed, Jul 2nd, 2025 Highlights : As per the JSW – RVUNL agreement, the latter will procure energy storage services at a tariff of INR 2,24,000 per MW per month SW Renew Energy Thirty Seven Ltd, a step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy, has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUNL) for a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). The project will be developed on a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) basis in Rajasthan. As per the 12-year agreement, RVUNL will procure energy storage services at a tariff of ₹2,24,000 per MW per month. The project will be supported through viability gap funding (VGF) to improve cost competitiveness and ensure grid stability. JSW Energy’s Expanding Energy Storage Footprint With this latest agreement, JSW Energy has further strengthened its position in the energy storage space. The company now has a total committed energy storage capacity of 29.3 GWh, which includes 2.9 GWh of BESS and 26.4 GWh of pumped hydro storage. In a related development, Energizent Power, a subsidiary of JSW Energy, recently signed a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with NHPC Ltd on June 25. The deal covers 300 MW of solar-wind hybrid capacity under the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) framework. The hybrid project will span across Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, capitalising on strong solar resources in the west and wind potential in the south. Power will be supplied at a tariff of ₹3.49 per kWh, with commissioning expected within 24 months. The company, which operates across steel, cement, infrastructure, and energy verticals, is currently developing 12.8 GW of power projects. It targets a total generation capacity of 30 GW by 2030, with a substantial portion expected from green energy.
