JSW has announced that it has received a letter of award for 500 MW wind capacity from SECI. JSW Neo Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Energy Limited, received the award (LoA) for an additional 500 MW of wind capacity.

JSW received this award under the greenshoe option for the SECI wind power projects (Tranche – XVI). After this, the cumulative capacity allotted to JSW Neo under SECI Tranche XVI stands at 1,000 MW. The company’s current installed generation capacity is 7.2 GW, out of which 1.6 GW is wind.

The company is expected to have 9.8 GW of installed capacity by CY24. With this awarded capacity of 500 MW under SECI Tranche XVI, the company’s total locked-in generation capacity increases to 12.5 GW, of which 4.6 GW will be wind. JSW Energy has a total locked-in generation capacity of 12.5 GW comprising 7.2 GW operational, 2.6 GW under construction across wind, thermal, and hydro, and LoA/LoIs for 2.7 GW capacity from SECI (Solar Tranche XIII and Wind Tranche XVI), SJVN and GUVNL.

Additionally, the company has 3.4 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity through a battery energy storage system (BESS) and hydro-pumped storage project. The company aims to reach 20 GW generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity before 2030. JSW Energy has set an ambitious target for a 50 percent reduction in carbon footprint by 2030 and achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050.

Earlier this year, Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) awarded the 1,500 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar power projects to JSW Neo Energy, Sunsure Solarpark Fourteen, Tejorupa Renewables India Project, and NTPC Renewable Energy after they won the bid regarding the same. The tender for the project was released by SECI in December 2023.
According to the tender document by SECI, the scope of work will also include identifying suitable land, installing and owning the project, and securing connectivity and requisite approvals for interconnection with the ISTS network/State Transmission Utility (STU) or intra-state transmission system network.
