JSW Energy Begins Work at 225 MW Solar Power Project in Karnataka

JSW Energy has announced that its subsidiary – JSW Renewable Energy Vijayanagar Ltd – has started operations of 225 MW solar power plants in Karnataka’s Vijayanagar. The official statement of JSW Energy said that the solar project is part of the 958 MW solar and wind projects that were announced earlier. Under the group captive scheme, even Power Purchase Agreements were signed with the company.

Prashant Jain, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Energy, said “Commencement of operations at the 225 MW of Solar plant within the scheduled timelines is a key landmark for the company and testament to its world-class project execution capabilities. In the coming months, we remain upbeat to commence operations of under-construction pipeline of 2 GW wind projects in phases.”

Official statement also said that the operations of the solar project have started in less than 12 months despite several headwinds like COVID-related disruptions, elevated commodity price and global supply chain outages.

JSW Energy is presently constructing 2.25 GW of greenfield renewable energy capacity. It wants to realize 10 GW capacity by FY25 and 20 GW capacity by FY30 only in renewables besides achieving a 50% reduction in its carbon footprint by 2030. JSW Energy wants to attain carbon neutrality by 2050 with the help of RE expansion.

JSW Energy is looking to commission 2.25 GW of its under construction RE projects and 1.26 GW of wind energy projects tied with SECI in the next one year. The company says that once these projects are commissioned, its total power generation capacity will rise to 7 GW and renewables will have a share of about 55%.

JSW Energy also informed that it’s expeditiously securing resources of more than 20 GW capacity in various resource rich states and its evaluating opportunities for expansion into emerging energy businesses of hydro pumped storage, battery energy storage, green hydrogen and energy products & services.
