JSW Energy Adds 317 MW RE in August, Total Capacity Reaches 13.1 GW
Mumbai-based JSW Energy Limited commissioned 317 MW of renewable energy (RE) capacity during August 2025, taking the installed capacity to 13,097 MW. In a press release, while sharing these details, JSW Energy said, “The capacity addition is well-diversified across generation sources, with Hydro (Kutehr) comprising 240 MW, wind at 43 MW, and solar at 34 MW.”
The company explained that the share of renewables in the overall capacity has increased to 57%, consisting of wind capacity at 3,617 MW, solar capacity at 2,192 MW, and hydro capacity at 1,631 MW. The company added, “This capacity addition is timely in nature and will enable the company to benefit from the peak renewable generation season during the year and will contribute meaningfully to overall renewable output.”
Moreover, JSW Energy said, "Its total locked-in generation capacity of 30.3 GW, comprising 13.1 GW operational, 12.7 GW under construction across thermal and renewable, and a pipeline of 4.6 GW."
For developing future renewable energy projects, JSW Energy said, “The company also has 29.4 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity through hydro pumped storage projects of 26.4 GWh and battery energy storage systems (BESS) of 3.0 GWh. The company aims to reach 30 GW generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by FY 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.”
JSW had made a conscious call to avoid bidding for plain solar and wind tenders, and even withdrew from solar manufacturing despite winning a PLI allocation. The comoany blamed poor margins for the decision, going eventually for storage based projects in a big way based on its reading of the market.
Capacity Addition
During Q1 FY26, JSW Energy reportedly added 1.9 GW of new capacity, which took its total installed capacity to 12.8 GW. This represented a year-on-year growth of approximately 70%, up from 7.6 GW in the corresponding period last year.
The company also saw its net generation increase 71% year-on-year, rising from 7.9 billion units to 13.5 billion units, reflecting the enhanced operational efficiency and expanded asset base.
On the renewable energy front, the company saw this rapid growth on the back of 1.3 GW organic wind capacity addition in the second half of FY 2025. Tthe company reported the highest ever quarterly EBITDA of ₹ 3,057 Cr, up by 93% year on year, and a Record PAT of ₹ 743 Crore up 42% year on year.
