JMU to Get 2.5 MW Solar Plant by SunSource Energy

To help Jamia Millia Islamia University to save around Rs 1 Crore at the energy cost annually, solar project developer SunSource Energy said it will install a 2.5 MW solar rooftop at the institution.

In a statement put out by the SunSource Energy, the organization is all set to have the rooftop solar facility on the campus of Jamia by the end of June 2018.

The MoU is in line with the government’s target of installing 40 GW grid-connected solar rooftop by 2022. The electricity would be supplied at Rs 3.39 per unit for a period of 25 years.

Work for the installation of solar panels on over 50 rooftops of various buildings like central library, colleges, and department of Jamia and the hostels has already been started.

“The institution’s current project is an attempt to run it on renewable energy and will position it as a leader among central universities when it comes to the use of renewable energy,” said Jamia Millia University Vice-Chancellor Talat Ahmed in a statement.

SunSource will take care of all the costs of setup and maintenance and the University will incur no cost. The SECI will support SunSource in the project.

Kushagra Nandan, COO & Co-founder of SunSource Energy said in the statement “With the installation of the 2.5 MW plant, Jamia Millia Islamia is expected to save over Rs 1 crore annually apart from significantly contributing to the environment”.
