JK Lakshmi Cement Partners with Ampin to Invest ₹4 Cr in Solar Venture
JK Lakshmi Cement, a cement manufacturer in India, has acquired a 26% stake in Ampin C&I Power Four Private Limited. In a press release, the company explained that this investment, of up to ₹4 crore and has a planned capacity of 9.9 MWp.
The company explained, "Formalized through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and Shareholders’ Agreement, enables JK Lakshmi Cement would source solar power under applicable captive power laws, supporting its clean energy cost and bringing cost efficiency. This arrangement, focused on renewable energy adoption, can also ensure reliable operations, further optimizing operational expenses. "
On the recent development, Arun Shukla, President & Director, JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd., said, “Our partnership with Ampin C&I Power Four marks a pivotal milestone in our sustainability journey. By integrating renewable energy into our value chain, we are not only reducing our environmental footprint but also optimizing long-term energy costs. JK Cement Eyes Renewable Energy Expansion
JK Cement, in a Q1 FY'26 investors' call, mentioned about focusing on renewable energy as one of its key focus areas on the manufacturing front.
In the call, its management hinted at renewable energy expansion, stating that, "Renewable, we are there at 49% now. And we do have a plan. Wherever we have the possibility, we are enhancing that, like in Gujarat and in Rajasthan, we are improving our renewable portfolio, and we see that our renewable portfolio will go around 52% in this year. So, this is one initiative, of course, I think it's going to give us some kind of savings."
The cement sector has been on an overdrive to add green energy to its mix, considering the high energy consumption in the sector. Led by the Adani owned Ambuja cement, the country's cement majors are likely to cross the 50% share mark in terms of total green energy in their energy mix by 2030.
