National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) – the largest state owned power producer in the country – has announced that its Jetsar Solar PV Project located in Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan is now completely commercially operational. The electricity produced from the solar farm was supplied to the grid system in March end.

NTPC said, “Consequent upon successful commissioning and due approvals, last part capacity of 80MW out of 160MW Jetsar solar PV project at Rajasthan, is declared on commercial operation w.e.f. 25.03.2022”

NTPC added that with this, standalone installed and commercial capacity of NTPC has become 54596.68 MW. The power producer also informs that group installed and commercial capacity has become 68961.68 MW and 68301.68 MW respectively.

The first part of 80MW of the project was operationalized in October last year. NTPC has developed the solar power project on the land owned by National Seeds Corporation (NSC) – another Central Public Sector Enterprise.

NTPC is taking various steps to make its energy portfolio greener by adding significant capacities of Renewable Energy Sources. By 2032, NTPC plans to have 60GW capacity through RE sources constituting nearly 45% of its overall power generation capacity.

NTPC has a commissioned capacity of more than 1500 MW of solar power projects under own capacity addition which includes some sizeable solar power projects like Bilhaur, Ananthapuram, Bhadla, Mandsaur, and Fatehgarh. NTPC says that 1954 MW of RE projects are under implementation out of which about 200 MW constitutes floating solar power projects.

NTPC is building a 92MW floating solar power project at Rajiv Gandhi Gas-based Power Station in Kerala’s Kayamkulam. Of this, 22 MW has been commissioned by the NTPC and the electricity is being supplied to Kerala State Electricity Board.

Last month, NTPC has signed an overseas contract with Ceylon Electricity Board to set up a solar plant in Trincomalee’s Sampur in Sri Lanka.
