JBM has supplied another set of 300 ‘Ecolife’ electric buses to Delhi that were brought to services last week. With this delivery, the fleet of buses by JBM to Delhi to boost the presence of electric buses stands at 500 now. These buses were flagged off by Delhi LG Vinai Kumar Saxena, CM Arvind Kejriwal, and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on February 14.

As the need for electric vehicles grows manifold, JBM has set up various charging points across locations in Delhi. It has established a 30 MW charging infrastructure with more than 100 high-capacity DC fast chargers at various bus depots. JBM’s ECOLIFE electric buses have been operational in the national capital for over two years. They are equipped with fast-charging lithium-ion batteries.

Last year in December, 500 electric buses were flagged off making the city have the highest number of electric buses anywhere in the country. Transport Minister Gahlot also said then that by the end of 2025, the total number of buses in Delhi will be around 10,480 with 80 percent of them comprising electric buses.

According to the state government, in December 2023, Delhi recorded a massive 19.5% EV sales of the overall vehicles sold. It was the highest ever among any state in India to date. Overall in 2023, Delhi registered a total of 6,57,312 vehicles out of which 73,610 were Electric Vehicles. Earlier, several studies including studies from Kyushu University in Japan had claimed that with the increased electrification of buses in Delhi, the city can avoid several mortalities and morbidities linked to air pollution. As per studies and estimates, Delhi is among the top polluted cities in the world. State government has been claiming that around 800 e-buses have been running for over 1.5 years. The government is also trying to add more buses into the system to bring more buses to the national capital.
