China-headquartered JA Solar has been tapped to supply 1 gigawatt (GW) of its high-efficiency DeepBlue 4.0 Pro photovoltaic modules for two of Azerbaijan’s largest solar power projects, Banka and Bilasuvar. The projects are being developed by UAE-based renewable energy major Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - Masdar.
Milestone Projects for Azerbaijan
Once commissioned, the Banka and Bilasuvar solar farms are expected to produce approximately 1,530,000 MWh of electricity per year. This clean energy generation will help avoid nearly 1.15 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, significantly contributing to Azerbaijan’s renewable energy targets.
The utility-scale projects are among the largest in the country, heralding a key milestone in Azerbaijan’s shift toward low-carbon energy systems.
Advanced Technology for Harsh Environments
The Banka and Bilasuvar solar farms are expected to produce approximately 1,530,000 MWh of electricity per year, the official statement notes. These include resistance to high humidity, salinity, dust, and strong winds.
The DeepBlue 4.0 modules are engineered for long-term reliability, improved energy output, and reduced levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), making them suitable for the varied and harsh environments of the Caspian region, the company said.
“We are proud to contribute to this landmark project with our DeepBlue 4.0 Pro modules,” said Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar. “Masdar has long been a trusted partner, and we appreciate their confidence in our products and expertise. Together, we are advancing toward a more sustainable future.”
Founded in 2005, JA Solar is a global photovoltaic powerhouse with operations spanning wafers, cells, modules, and energy storage. It has 16 overseas subsidiaries and customers in 178 countries. As of Q1 2025, its cumulative global shipments exceeded 280 GW.
Masdar’s Expanding Renewable Portfolio
Masdar has also significantly scaled up its global renewable energy portfolio. From about 20 GW in 2022, its portfolio expanded to 51 GW by the end of 2024, marking a 150 percent growth. With active projects and partnerships in over 40 countries, the company aims to expand its portfolio to 100 GW by 2030. Masdar is also developing plans to enter the green hydrogen sector within that timeframe.
