JA Solar has become the latest among the leading Chinese solar manufacturers to enter the storage sector.  Linked to the increasing role of storge in new solar projects, JA Solar has launched JA Energy Storage along with the main innovations in its portfolio. Other key China-based solar majors including Jinko Solar, Trina Solar and Longi have already established string storage divisions or are in the process of doing it.

A Space For Dialogue & Innovation

The launch program included a space for industry discussions and analysis of current trends in the solar and energy storage sector, through a dialogue featuring Bárbara Barbieri, president of ACESOL (Chilean Solar Energy Association), and Ana Lía Rojas, executive director of ACERA (Chilean Renewable Energy and Storage Association).

“Energy storage is key to bridging the gap between where we generate energy and where it is consumed. Chile produces a lot of solar energy in the north, and much of the demand is in the central region, making this technology strategic for the electrical system,” said Bárbara Barbieri, president of ACESOL, the Chilean Solar Energy Association.

For her part, Ana Lía Rojas, executive director of ACERA, the association that brings together the renewable energy and storage ecosystem, emphasized: “The challenge is no longer just integrating more renewable projects; it’s ensuring there is sufficient demand to absorb them. The coal phase-out effect will run out, and what will define the sector’s future is our ability to electrify the country. Without widespread electrification, especially in the mining industry, the energy transition will remain incomplete.”

About the Event

At the event, Víctor Soares, Head of the LATAM Technical Team at JA Solar, added: “Lithium iron phosphate technology has established itself as the global standard in energy storage due to its balance of safety, lifespan, and cost, making it the most reliable option today for solar and battery projects, which is the focus of our company.”

This was emphasized by Marcos Donzino, Head of Sales South LATAM at JA Solar, who opened the event by stating that “the interest we saw at this meeting confirms that energy storage will continue to grow in Chile and the region, and that today it is a key enabler for the development of new solar projects. We want the market to see JA Solar not only as a solar panel manufacturer but also as a solutions integrator that combines solar and storage. The country is a strategic market for JA Solar due to its leadership in solar energy and because it now begins a new stage with the development of energy storage.”

For his part, Gabriel Magdalon, Vice President LATAM at JA Solar, added that “in addition to being leaders in photovoltaic modules, today we also want to consolidate our position as a relevant player in energy storage solutions in Latin America, and we wanted to demonstrate this with the presentation of our new BESS solutions.”
