Indofast Energy, a battery-swapping solutions provider, has announced a landmark partnership with the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) to establish a network of 23 battery-swapping stations. The infrastructure will be located along the Mumbai Metro Aqua Line 3 corridor, a critical north-south line for the city.
Each station will feature advanced automated technology capable of supporting multiple vehicle types on a single battery platform.
Strategic Deployment Across Key Transit Hubs
Under the new agreement, Indofast Energy will deploy swapping stations across eight key locations on the Aqua Line 3 route: Aarey JVLR, SEEPZ and MIDC, Santacruz Metro, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Dharavi, and Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk.
These stations are designed to serve electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and small commercial vehicles. By placing this infrastructure at major transit nodes, the partnership aims to benefit delivery partners, ride-sharing drivers, and daily commuters who rely on the metro for their primary journey but require efficient, green transport for the "last mile."
"Our collaboration with MMRCL represents a paradigm shift in urban mobility planning," said Anant Badjatya, CEO of Indofast Energy. "By integrating battery swapping infrastructure directly with the lifeline of the city, we are making electric mobility the most convenient and practical option for millions of Mumbaikars," he added.
R Ramana, Director (Planning) at MMRCL, said, "Setting up battery swapping stations at our key metro stations will help more people switch to electric vehicles for their short trips, showing how public transport can support the shift to clean mobility," he noted.
Scaling India’s Densest Swapping Network
Indofast Energy, a 50:50 joint venture between Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and SUN Mobility, operates 19 stations in Mumbai.
The company has a network of over 1,125 stations nationwide. In addition, it has forged partnerships with major vehicle and logistics players like Zypp, Rapido, and Omega Seiki Mobility, as well as infrastructure giants including Indian Railways and other metro corporations such as Namma Metro and Hyderabad Metro.
