The Technology Development Board (TDB), under the Department of Science & Technology, has extended its support to Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, for developing and commercialising a high-voltage 240-volt electric motorcycle platform.
This development marks the first time such advanced voltage technology, previously seen mainly in electric cars, is being applied in India’s electric motorcycle segment.
Faster Charging and Better Efficiency for e2w
The 240-volt DC architecture enables faster charging and better efficiency for electric motorcycle segment, enhancing compatibility with the growing public charging infrastructure in India. The project also includes the development of a specialised battery pack certified by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
Raptee Energy’s in-house R&D unit, recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), has spent over six years designing, testing, and validating key components, including electronics, mechanical systems, and embedded software, ensuring quality and indigenous manufacturing.
Smart Features and Sustainability Focus
Beyond performance improvements, the electric motorcycle platform integrates advanced smart connectivity features such as remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates, enabling continuous enhancement of the vehicle throughout its lifecycle.
The project also promotes sustainable manufacturing practices, aiming for zero waste and no external emissions during production. This aligns with the government’s priorities on climate action and supporting initiatives under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
The innovation also contributes directly to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including SDG 11 on Sustainable Cities and Communities and SDG 13 on Climate Action.
Speaking about the collaboration, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary of TDB, said, “High-voltage technology in electric two-wheelers opens new possibilities for faster adoption of EVs in a vast Indian market. TDB aims to accelerate domestic innovation and build strong R&D ecosystems to ensure sustainable mobility solutions emerge from within the country.”
Raptee Energy’s CEO, Dinesh Arjun, welcomed the support, stating, “TDB’s backing validates our long-term R&D efforts and empowers us to scale up our indigenous high-voltage motorcycle platform. This is a key step towards establishing India as a leader in the global electric vehicle transition.”
