Sep 23- Green Stocks  Stay Subdued, Mirroring Market

It's just day 2 of the week, and the markets have already given up all hopes of any strong recovery from last week. Be it the return of FII buying, progress on an Indo-US trade deal, markets seem to have given up expectations for now, quickly giving up whatever gains they had made on this thesis. In the slide, even gains linked to the 'momentous' GST cuts have evaporated in most cases. 

Notably, Vikram Solar slipped below its IPO price today, which will worry investors looking at the Saatvik Solar IPO for listing gains possibly on Friday. Both Saatvik and GK Energy, the other solar IPO on the right, have been fully subscribed. 

Coming up immediately after is SolarWorld, and it remains to be seen how this one fares. A falling off in investor interest is evident in the lower subscription numbers for these issues, and many would believe we are at the end of one leg of the cycle now. Future firms might have to reconsider the extent of dilution and pricing to ensure their issues sail through. 

On the government side, the focus continues to shift towards longer-term challenges, even as it is almost like the government is hoping short-term issues will sort themselves out on their own. In an energy market distorted by subsidised power, poor coordination, inadequate transmission capacity, and more, there is an urgent need to look at these issues as well.
