Green Stocks Nov 21- No Stopping This Slide Show

Any hopes of relief on the weekend evaporated as news of a sharp correction in US markets came in, and the Indian markets duly dived. While the large-cap indices recovered somewhat to limit losses, the hapless small-cap and mid-cap indices, and with those, most of the green energy stocks had no such luck. 

It was interesting to see how stocks which have been listed recently, like Emmvee, Saatvik Solar, Vikram Solar or even GK Energy and Oswal Pumps, fall more steeply, as most continue to trade below, or close to their IPO prices. 

For older firms, the steady drop in prices augurs poorly for fundraising plans, be it by share pledges, QIP or other means. Not a good omen when the sector will continue to be hungry for capital, considering the expansion underway across all segments from EPCs to manufacturing to developers. For now, most firms have little to no gains to show for 2025, and that should start to worry investors, not just into green stocks but the markets in general. Many will hope that things turn around before December rolls around, or the broader IPO juggernaut we have seen, and the solar energy floodgates for IPOs, both may see a pause soon. 

With a strong pipeline of firms looking to go public,  we believe the conversation around expected valuations would already have moderated expectations, and things are fast reaching a stage where even the most awaited deal of the year, the Indo-US trade deal, may not reverse the ride of selling pressure we are seeing anytime soon.
