As the war in the Gulf continued to roil markets and calculations worldwide, India continues to tread water, with a very delicate situation in gas, particularly, even as the position on other fuels seems manageable. With Russian crude oil supplies available, it is the availabil;ity of gas that is highest on the agenda for India's planners. While orders have gone out mandating higher production of LPG from crude, the absence of LNG cargoes from the Middle East will weigh heavily on prospects. While industrial customers are already feeling the pain, even an improvement in the supply situation will be accompanied by pain in the form of higher-priced gas.
For the green energy sector, the war will serve as a strong long-term positive in the way it makes people explore energy independence through green energy, but like with the rest of the economy, it cannot be immune to short-term pain.
There is also likely to be a pause on fresh tenders and orders as buyers seek clarity for the near term and beyond. That means no new orders to go for right now. A good opportunity to focus on existing order books and prepare for a strong rebound when the situation improves or normalises. Each day that the war goes on adds a level of unpredictability in terms of how far operating conditions could change, be it in terms of prices, order flow or even the risk of order cancellations and postponements.
It will be a brave investor indeed who backs firms right now, but we have little doubt that a return to normalcy of any sort will lead to a quick rebound in stock prices.
