Green Stocks Feb 25- IT has AI, Green energy has Trump Tariffs

In a market that has been swooning with every doomsday prediction linked to the impact of AI, especially on Indian IT firms, green energy stocks have their own nemesis. Donald Trump and his tariff actions. The latest move to slap a 126% tariff on Indian solar imports to the US was particularly harsh on solar exporters. Firms exposed to the US market, like Waaree Energies and Vikram Solar, bore the brunt of the reaction, even as even domestic focused firms like Premier Energies suffered in tandem.

In many ways, the gyrations of the last six months must have made many promoters wonder if this is what they had hoped for when they dreamt of going public. For now, nothing,  including good results have been enough to dispel investor skepticism, even as there have been enough signs that most of the worries are overblown at worst, or premature at least.

That even a quality firm like CleanMax is struggling to reach 100% subscription to its ipo is a stark reminder of the fate that awaits other, less heralded firms if they hit the markets now. Not the time to dream, one would say, but to build quietly.

The one saving grace has been that, with well-entrenched promoter holdings in most cases, these firms have not become undervalued targets for predators in a tough market. Though some would say such a move would be a welcome sign of someone spotting and acting on value in the sector, perhaps.
