Green Stocks Dec 11- Shakti Pumps Claws Back Some Losses, Most Stocks Gain

Powered by a broader market recovery and a significant order win, Shakti Pumps powered up the green pack today with a 12% plus gain, even as most other stocks, notably Acme Solar, also made steady gains.  The gains came after a painful start today, as many stocks seemed to breach critical psychological support levels in many cases. With a long way to go before the gains can be termed a recovery of any sort, investors will have fingers crossed that the sentiment change sustains. 

The broader news for the sector has also been positive this week, with most analysts expecting a degree of price stability for solar panels, and even more important perhaps, a similar situation for storage from China. That will certainly help a long pipeline of projects up for execution over the next few quarters, with an immense impact on the green pack's financial resilience and credibility with investors. 

So the big question remains: is any sort of recovery sustainable enough to have legs to carry it into the new year? Quite simply, we don't think so.  While there has been a raft of positive news and announcements, most come from quarters with an interest in seeing a recovery soon. A sustained recovery would need a singular trigger like a trade deal or a big bang reform, or scarily, a complete capitulation before recovery starts. For the green pack, that level is still 8-10% away by most accounts, on the downside.
