Green Stocks Sep 12- Optimism Ensures A Positive Closing For Markets

With the US administration making positive noises about resolving issues with India on the trade deal, it is hope over reality for now, as the 50% tariffs remain, even if the possibility of a resolution seems closer.

Green Stocks Sep 12- Optimism Ensures A Positive Closing For Markets

The markets enjoyed a strong weekly closing, ensuring a full week of daily gains as well as the closest to a turnaround in fortunes one could hope for. With the US administration making positive noises about resolving issues with India on the trade deal, it is hope over reality for now, as the 50% tariffs remain, even if the possibility of a resolution seems closer.

In the green pack,  Shakti Pumps, the underperformer of the year for many, made a much-needed sprint for higher levels today and managed to hold on to most of the gains it made during the day. With no specific announcement from the firm, it remains to be seen just why the stock enjoyed such a strong day.

For most other green stocks, there was no such high, with Acme Solar the one bright spot as it continued to gain post crossing the key Rs 300 barrier. Interestingly, all the solar manufacturers slipped up today, indicating perhaps a realisation that, US thawing or not, these stocks might have run up too sharply earlier during the week.

For EPC firms, it remains a time to ignore the noise and focus on execution, to show that the bulging order books they all share are making an impact on the bottom line as well. With parent Reliance making big headlines with its 140 GW announcement on solar power during the AGM, Sterling and Wilson Investors will be wondering when the Solar EPC firm will show some momentum from that piece of pie.

Wind energy firms continued to move in a range, not for any lack of good news, but simply because they are both well valued. Inox Wind, in fact, made the case for a slight upgrade with announcements during the week, but with little further effect on the stock price. The coming week will be crucial to see just how strong the underlying interest in the green pack is, based on whether the pack outperforms the market or not. We remain optimistic that the pack will remain a higher-than-usual beta as always.
