During the first quarter(Q1) of 2017 the highest power capacity addition notched 3.3 gigawatts.
These remarkable figures are a result of the busy auctions India witnessed at State and Central level.

During the first three months of the year 2018, India witnessed its highest-ever solar power capacity.

According to the data released by the government, between January and March of this year the country has managed to add 4.6 gigawatts of new utility-scale power capacity to its kitty.

During the first quarter(Q1) of 2017 the highest power capacity addition notched 3.3 gigawatts.

These remarkable figures are a result of the busy auctions India witnessed at State and Central level.

It is pertinent to mention that the record can be surpassed in the coming quarters as the government is aggressively working on clean energy sector.

Although the solar power capacity saw its highest surge in Q1 of this year, the renewable energy capacity has also taken a hit. With all subsequent years, the clean energy capacity addition in India dropped nearly 14%, from 7.2 gigawatts to 6.2 gigawatts.

Steep fall in the wind energy capacity addition is seen as the major reason for the decline of overall additional capacity in renewable energy. In the Q1 of 2017 around 3.6 gigawatts of wind capacity were added which later fell to just 1.2 in Q1 of 2018.

The addition in the biopower sector helped to shore up the total renewable energy capacity in the Q1 of 2018.

Wind could be expected to have a larger contribution in the coming quarters with around 7.5 gigawatts wind energy capacity auctioned so far in the country.
