Hyderabad based Greenko Energies Pvt Ltd will be supplying clean power to ArcelorMittal, Ayana Renewable Power and three Indian states from its upcoming renewable energy plus storage facility worth 5,230 MW being constructed in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, according to reports.

Just days ago, Greenko commenced the work on the integrated RE storage project in Kurnool district. The project’s foundation stone was laid by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. As per Greenko, the project would prevent emission of about 15 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. World steel leader ArcelorMittal has been at the forefront with this Greenko project as it has made an investment of $600 million for 1,000 MW capacity. In the entire project of 5,230 MW, 3000 MW is solar power, 550 MW wind power and the remaining 1,680 MW is pump storage capacity. The project will also have 10,800 MW as the daily storage capacity.

The renewable power supplies will be made by Greenko out of 1,680 storage capacity. In the scheme of things, ArcelorMittal will get 250 MW for its Hazira-based plant in Gujarat. Ayana Renewable Power will also take away 550 MW. The rest will be available for states’ power distribution companies.

Greenko Group CEO and MD, Anil Chalamalasetty, informs that most of the PPAs to give effect to the distribution of green power are already signed, though there is no clarity with regards to the rates at which the power is being sold to the said customers.

“With this project, we have pioneered the concept of storage… This was possible due to policy support at the national level and of the state government,” said Chalamalasetty.

Greenko Group claims itself to be among the leading RE players in India. The company says that it has a capacity of 7.5 GW across solar, wind and hydro generation assets spread in 15 states. Greenko has already initiated Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Projects in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
