In a press conference on Wednesday, SPAG President Sandeep Naik said the momentum is being driven by the Prime Minister’s Surya Ghar Yojana and the Goa State Solar Policy, which he described as the “best solar policies till date.”

Installed Capacity Set to Expand Fivefold

Goa has so far achieved 12 MW of installed solar capacity, with another 2 MW currently under implementation. Naik said the industry is optimistic about scaling this up to 65 MW by 2027.

Consumer investment in solar is also expected to surge, rising from ₹18 crore at present to an estimated INR 162 crore by 2027. In parallel, the sector’s business turnover is projected to climb from INR 37 crore to INR 325 crore in the same period.

SPAG forecasts a sharp rise in employment, with direct solar sector jobs expected to grow from 750 to 2,250 and indirect employment from 1,875 to 6,750 over the next three years. The number of solar entrepreneurs in Goa is also projected to triple - from 45 currently to 135.

Government Support and GST Revenues

Naik noted that the central government has already disbursed INR 13.5 crore in subsidies through the state and another INR 5.37 crore directly to beneficiaries. GST collections from the sector, currently at INR 4.48 crore, are projected to rise to INR 39 crore by 2027.

He added that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has been proactive in promoting green energy and has encouraged citizens to take full advantage of the central scheme.
