GE T&D India to Set Up PowerGrid’s Substation in Gujarat For Wind Power Evacuation

Through this project, GE will help evacuate around 2500 MW of wind power generated in Gujarat.

GE T&D Wind Power Evacuation

GE T&D India, part of GE’s Grid Solutions business in India, has been awarded a Rs 162 crore contract by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) to extend the 765kV AIS Substation and setting up a new 400kV /220kV Gas-Insulated Substation (GIS) at Bhuj and extend the existing 400kV GIS at Tirunelveli Substation, associated with the Green Corridor Transmission System. Through this project, GE will help evacuate around 2500 MW of wind power generated in Gujarat.

A large number of wind farms and solar projects are being set up in western India for generation of renewable power. A Green Energy Power Transmission Corridor is being set up to evacuate power generated by renewable energy projects. Post execution of this project, various wind farm developers will be able to transmit the power generated in the state to the Green Energy Power Transmission Corridor.

Sunil Wadhwa, MD, GE T&D India Limited said, “GE remains fully committed to helping prepare India for an increasing share of renewables in the energy mix. As renewable capacity in the country goes up, it is imperative that grid infrastructure in states like Gujarat, which have a high degree of renewable generation, is scaled up rapidly to keep up with the evacuation demand of solar and wind power into the Green Energy Corridor. This project will further strengthen the grid evacuation infrastructure in the western part of the country and improve access to important demand centers.”

All key 765kV and 400 kV AIS, 400kV GIS equipment and automation systems will be supplied from GE T&D India’s manufacturing facilities at Pallavaram, Padappai, Noida and Hosur. The project will be delivered on a turnkey basis.

In the past, GE has executed similar projects for PGCIL to evacuate solar power through the Green Corridor Transmission System. The company installed a 400 kV AIS substation to evacuate solar power from the 750 MW Ultra Mega Solar Power Park at Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. GE has also installed a 765 kV AIS Substation to evacuate power from the Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan.
