Energy-tech startup Exponent Energy has unveiled its next-generation Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station, code-named P4, which promises 15-minute rapid charging alongside a complete design overhaul aimed at space efficiency, ease of use, and battery longevity.

The P4 station integrates three key innovations:

  • Wall-style design: At just 400 mm slim, the unit runs along the length of a parked vehicle, freeing up space in crowded urban settings.

  • Floating cables: A custom 3-axis suspension mechanism makes cables and connectors effectively weightless, retracting automatically after use.

  • Offboard thermal management: Building on its earlier coolant-based system, Exponent has added pre-heating, ensuring fast charging and extended battery life even in cold climates.

Arun Vinayak, Co-founder & CEO, said: “At Exponent, design is not just about aesthetics but about rethinking from first principles to deliver better engineering and economics. This charger embodies our vision of making EV charging as seamless as fuelling, while ensuring reliability at scale.”

Built for Scale

Delivering up to 40 kW of power, the P4 is already being deployed in cities across India for partners such as Murugappa Group’s Montra Electric and Omega Seiki Mobility, covering both passenger and commercial EVs.

The charger’s robust connector — built in a full-metal shell with axial seals similar to LPG and CNG guns — is designed to endure India’s toughest conditions, remaining functional even underwater. Optimised airflow reduces fan noise in cities, while a revamped internal layout improves long-term reliability.

The Exponent app complements the hardware, offering real-time charger location, availability, and seamless monthly-pass billing without manual payments or keycards.

Scaling Rapid Adoption

Founded in 2020, Exponent has powered more than 8 lakh rapid charging sessions across 2,000 EVs, enabling over 50 million kilometres of green mobility. Last year, it became the first in India — and only the third globally — to launch 1 MW rapid charging for buses.

The company, recognised by the World Economic Forum’s 2025 Technology Pioneers list, has raised $44.6 million from investors including TDK Ventures, Lightspeed, Eight Roads Ventures, and domestic backers such as 3one4 Capital and YourNest VC.

With P4, Exponent says it has combined design, engineering, and field learnings to set a new benchmark for EV infrastructure, not just in India but globally.
