China’s EVE Energy said the world’s first 400 megawatt-hour (MWh) energy storage station using 628Ah ultra-large battery cells has begun operations, marking a step toward wider deployment of large-format batteries in grid-scale projects.
The facility, part of the Ruite New Energy Lingshou 200MW/400MWh project, is equipped with 80 units of 5MWh direct-current energy storage systems and 40 integrated power conversion cabins, the company said.
Utility-Scale Suitability
EVE Energy said cumulative production of its 628Ah cells has exceeded 1 million units, which it said demonstrates the technology’s manufacturing readiness and suitability for utility-scale applications.
The system uses the company’s safety-focused cell design and a simplified architecture, including a stacking process and high-toughness separators, aimed at improving safety, efficiency and lifespan while lowering the levelized cost of storage.
Agreement With Guowang
Separately, EVE Energy signed a 10 gigawatt-hour (GWh) strategic agreement with Guowang Technology, expanding cooperation from individual projects to long-term deployment.
The company said it plans to continue developing large battery technology and expand global manufacturing and service capabilities to support the energy transition.
