Epic Energy, REFNIC to Build Li-Ion Battery Recycling, 10 MWh Second-Life Plant in India

Mumbai-based Epic Energy Limited (Epic) has recently collaborated with REFNIC, a brand operated by Zetrance Technology, to develop initiatives in lithium-ion battery recycling and second-life battery applications. In a regulatory filing, Epic Energy Limited said the collaboration will be undertaken through its Special Purpose Vehicle, Swachchha Urja Nirman LLP (SUN LLP).

Bhalchandra Kadam, Partner, SUN LLP, stated: “As adoption of electric mobility and energy-storage solutions continues to scale, it is essential to address not only battery recycling but also the structured repurposing of usable cells through second-life applications. Scientific handling of industrial residues, process sludge, and recoverable materials is central to building environmentally compliant and future-ready clean-energy supply chains.”

Nikhil Morsawala, Chief Financial Officer, Epic Energy Limited, stated: “This initiative marks a measured step forward for Epic Energy. Beginning with our first facility at Wada, Maharashtra, which includes a lithium-ion battery shredding plant with an installed capacity of 500 kilograms per hour of black-mass production and a second-life battery assembly line designed for approximately 10 MWh per month, the engagement with REFNIC establishes a scalable technical platform. Over time, this platform may be expanded across India and, where appropriate, extended to global opportunities as the ecosystem evolves.”

Previous Collaborations

Epic Energy has previously entered into a Technology Transfer Agreement through its subsidiary, Swachcha Urja Nirman LLP (SUN LLP), with the Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET). The collaboration focuses on the recycling of end-of-life assorted lithium-ion batteries (excluding LFP batteries) using a hydrometallurgical process.
