EDPR 307 MW Wind CfD

EDP Renováveis (EDPR), a global leader in the renewable energy sector and one of the world’s largest wind energy producers, has announced that it has secured a 15-year Contract-for-Difference (CfD) at the Polish energy auction to sell electricity produced by a portfolio of 11 wind farms with a total capacity of 307 MW. The projects are expected to become operational in 2021 and 2022.

This new long-term contract reinforces EDPR’s footprint in Poland leading to a portfolio of over 750 MW of wind onshore capacity by 2022.

Wind energy is an essential part of the global energy transition, allowing the market’s rapid growth and increase competitiveness. As of today, EDPR has secured 74 percent of the nearly 7 GW targeted wind and solar global capacity build-out for the 2019-2022 period, as communicated in the Strategic Update on March 2019, and will continue to develop worldwide profitable projects.

Recently, the company through its subsidiary EDP Renováveis Brasil had announced that it has secured a 16-year private Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to sell the power to be produced by Catanduba wind farm. The wind farm, located in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Norte, has a total capacity of 96 MW and is expected to start operations in 2024.

Earlier, we had reported that WindPower Korea, EDPR and Aker Solutions have formed a consortium with the ambition to develop an initial 500 MW floating wind farm off the coast of Ulsan Metropolitan City in South Korea.

In October, RWE Renewables had announced that the firm has acquired a pipeline of up to 4 offshore wind projects in Poland as part of its ambitions to enter the Polish offshore market and grow its offshore operations across Europe, with a total generation capacity of more than 1.5 GW. The company has acquired the shares in the project companies from private owners and developers. RWE intends to further develop, build and operate the projects.
