Indian solar module maker ECE India Energy said it plans to begin solar cell manufacturing by 2027, as it eyes global markets predominantly the African market.

The Maharashtra-based firm will set up a 2-gigawatt (GW) solar cell production facility in Amravati, with commissioning targeted for 2026 or 2027, the top management of the firm told Saur Energy.

Plant at Amravati (Maharashtra)

“We are in the process of installing a solar cell manufacturing line by 2026 or 2027. The proposed 2 GW plant will be established in Amravati, Maharashtra,” Aniket Tondare, director of sales at ECE India Energies, told Saur Energy.  The company also plans to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in the next financial year to cater to the financial needs of expansion.

ECE India Energies is increasing its focus on exports as global demand for solar equipment rises. “The US is a good market, although there have been some recent uncertainties due to a change in leadership,” Tondare said. “We are also targeting the African market. Just a few days ago, we closed a major order for Africa. We see Africa as a promising market for ECE.”

Domestic expansion

At home, the company operates a 450-megawatt (MW) solar module plant and is planning an additional 2 GW module line by June 2025. Its modules are certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for outputs up to 650Wp. The firm now flaunts solar modules with its peak capacity of up to 650Wp.

He noted that customer behavior varies by region. When asked about the South Indian market, he said, “The South Indian market is unique—customers here are more focused on the technical parameters rather than price. We are pro-technology and meet all technical standards.”
