With the signing of the PPA with EDPR, the company will source renewable power from 1 wind energy and 2 solar energy plants in Spain with a total capacity of 76 MW. While in the USA, the company will purchase electricity from Origis Energy’s solar plant with a total capacity of 78 MW.

Commenting on the development, Dimitri de Vreeze, Co-CEO of Royal DSM, said that “with these two large renewable electricity deals we are significantly improving the environmental footprint of our operations and are well on track to achieve our ambitious 75 percent purchased renewable electricity target ahead of schedule. I am proud that we are proactively delivering on our contribution to the Paris Agreement and that we continue to lead the way in our industry to move to a low carbon future.”

With these long-term agreements, DSM enables the owners to secure financing for the construction of their new renewable energy parks and ensures additional renewable electricity capacity for the planet.

“This PPA rewards our compromise to continuously seek corporate agreements with industrial leaders and is a chance to increase our pipeline in a core market for us like Spain. We are steadfast in our commitment to keep growing responsibly and with the clear goals of continuing to generate value for all of our stakeholders, and to make a decisive contribution to the energy transition,” commented João Manso Neto, CEO of EDPR.

Through the signing of these PPAs, Netherland-based company aimed to cut its CO2 emissions by approx 85,000 tons per year. Moreover, both the PPAs cover approx one-quarter of its current total annual power consumption.

“Providing clean energy solutions for the world’s leading companies, including those who have made these important 100 percent renewable energy commitments, inspires us every day. We thank the DSM team for the opportunity to collaborate with them,” said Johan Vanhee, Chief Commercial Officer & Chief Procurement Officer of Origis Energy.
