The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to jointly develop 300 MW of solar-based renewable energy projects at DRDO facilities across India.

The MoU exchange ceremony was held at DRDO Bhawan in New Delhi. The attendees included Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, and Santosh Kumar Sarangi, IAS, Secretary of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

DRDO announced the pact on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, emphasising the joint commitment to renewable energy deployment within strategic defence establishments.

Self-Reliance and Net-Zero Defence Campuses

Under the terms of the MoU, DRDO and SECI will collaborate towards establishing self-reliant, Net-Zero energy campuses by 2027 at all major DRDO locations. The 300 MW capacity solar initiative aligns with India's goals for the adoption of clean energy and sustainability in public sector operations.

"Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) under the Ministry of Defence and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy(MNRE) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the development of 300 MW capacity of solar-based renewable energy projects across DRDO establishments in India," wrote DRDO.

SECI is spearheading solar power development in India. Recently, SECI also reached an agreement with ENGIE for the development of a 100 MW solar photovoltaic project in Barmer, Rajasthan. In its audited standalone financial results for the year ending 31st March 2025, SECI recorded revenue from operations of INR 15,185.10 crore and Profit After Tax (PAT) of INR 501.92 crore in the financial year 2024–25.
