In other news, the latest draft notification released by the Karnataka Energy Regulatory Commission (KERC) proposed a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) system for energy transactions, through a blockchain-based platform between consumers and the discoms. The policy suggested the use of a blockchain-based electronic platform by the service provider to sell their energy to P2P consumers at a mutually agreed-upon price by the service provider. The service provider is a ‘Discom Licensee’ that provides P2P energy transaction services on the Blockchain-based platform.

Furthermore, Karnataka has also now planned to boost the usage of solar energy in its buildings. It has also planned to boost green buildings in the state. The state recently unveiled its ‘State Energy Efficiency Action Plan,’ outlining a strategic shift from conventional to solar-led electrification of buildings. The plan emphasizes the importance of BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) Star Ratings for Buildings, particularly green buildings. It can help to integrate features such as energy-efficient lighting, HVAC systems, and renewable energy sources.
