Delhi Govt Announces State Subsidies Under PM Surya Ghar By Manish Kumar/ Updated On Wed, May 21st, 2025 Highlights : With a latest announcement, any resident seeking a 3 kW rooftop solar system can get upto Rs 1.08 lakh as subsidies (78,000 from MNRE and Rs 30,000 from Delhi govt). Delhi Govt Announces State Subsidies Under PM Surya Ghar In a significant push to promote residential solar adoption, the Delhi Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved an additional state government subsidy of ₹10,000 per kilowatt (kW) for rooftop solar installations in the national capital. The move is aimed at accelerating the uptake of clean energy by making solar systems more affordable for residents. Under the new provision, the Delhi government will provide a maximum subsidy of ₹30,000 for a 3 kW rooftop solar system, in addition to the subsidy already offered by the Union government under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This comes days after the state budget allocated Rs 50 crore to boost rooftop solar in the state with additional state government support. Upto Rs 1.08L Support For a 3kW System With this announcement, a Delhi resident installing a 3 kW rooftop solar system will now receive a total combined subsidy of ₹1,08,000 — ₹78,000 from the central government and ₹30,000 from the state government. The Delhi government also stated that it is working closely with financial institutions to offer easy and affordable financing options for local residents. This initiative is aimed at helping households overcome the upfront cost barrier that often prevents the adoption of rooftop solar systems. Following Other State Models This model mirrors similar initiatives in states like Uttar Pradesh, where total subsidies for a rooftop solar system also reach beyond Rs 1 lakh through joint contributions from both the state and central governments. The PM Surya Ghar scheme, launched last year, was introduced by the Centre to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar across Indian households, enabling significant savings on electricity bills while promoting clean energy generation. Delhi’s latest subsidy announcement, along with support for easier financing, is expected to provide a major boost to residential solar adoption in the city and contribute meaningfully to India’s renewable energy goals.
