Coal India Invites EoI from EPC Players to Build 2 GW Wind Projects Across India
Coal India Limited (CIL) has sought the interest of leading wind project EPC players for the development of wind power projects in potential states of India. In the latest tender, CIL invited expressions of Interest (EoI) for the wind project until September 16, 2025.
CIL plans to develop a 2,000 MW wind power project in regions with substantial wind resources in potential states of India, considering existing/committed transmission (ISTS and state) and recent state policy moves. Tentative locations include states such as Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.
The world's largest coal miner plans to develop the renewable energy projects in a phased manner, with an initial plan to develop 1,500–2,000 MW of wind capacity in India. With a target of 9.5 GW by 2030, Coal India is expected to finally make a dent on those numbers with projects staeting to come online from this financial year onwards. Almost 3 GW of solar, and 2 GW of wind projects are already in the pipeline. It is widely expected that the PSU will shortly tender for more storage linked projects as well, after making a start with a 150 MWh project earlier.
Scope of Work
Under the scope of work of this wind project, Coal India expects bidders to have experience in the following:
Detailed design, engineering, micro-siting, manufacturing, supply, erection, testing, commissioning, and proving the guaranteed performance parameters for the installation of the wind farm. It includes setting up 33 kV internal evacuation lines from the unit substation, pooling substation, and installation of Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs), unit substation, and SCADA shall be in the scope of the Wind EPC package.)
Coal India wind tender also mentioned, "For developing the project, the offered WTGs can be of any size, ranging from 1.0 MW to larger WTG machine sizes available in the market. The minimum Wind EPC package of the proposed wind capacities would be 35%. The WTG machines should be RLMM listed. Applicants can quote any capacity between 100 MW and 2,000 MW, based on their capabilities."
Moreover, as per prevailing government rules, the transfer of title/lease deed to Coal India Limited for a minimum period of 30 years, including infrastructure development, will be required.
