Coal India Limited (CIL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) for the exploration and execution of 4,100 MW capacity power projects on March 10.

The proposed electricity generation by CIL would be through a mix of coal-fired thermal power plants, solar projects, pump storage plants and wind projects. With Rajasthan, RRVUNL, exploring several opportunities for securing power to meet the growing energy demand, the entire generation would be acquired by the sunny state, read the release by PIB regarding the projects.

The five proposed projects are a 2×800 MW coal-based pit-head power plant to come up in a coal-bearing state, whose power would be drawn by Rajasthan. Others are a 2000 MW solar power project in RRVUNL’s solar park; a 200 MW (2×100) pump storage project at Jawahar Sagar; a 250 MW of solar project on the land acquired for Banswara TPP by RRVUNL and a 50 MW wind project at the existing Ramgarh gas project, Jaisalmer.

As per the MoU stipulation RRVUNL shall ensure offtake guarantee from the projects and also acquire, possess, and transfer the developed land parcels to JVC. CIL shall carry out feasibility studies and analyze the financial viability of each of the proposed projects.

On Sunday, NLC India Ltd and the Rajasthan government signed an agreement to form a joint venture for setting up two power projects totaling 1125 megawatts worth Rs 7,000 crore investment. Recently in February, NLC India issued a tender inviting bids for the supply of central inverters for a 600 MW Solar Project in GSECL’s Solar Park at Khavda in Gujarat. The bids have been sought under a two-part system followed by reverse bidding. This 600 MW Solar Power Project will be developed by NLCIL through its wholly-owned subsidiary NLC India Green Energy Limited.
