The launch was announced during the governing body meeting of CREST, chaired by UT Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma. The new portal is aimed at improving accessibility, transparency, and convenience for EV users across the city.

EV Portal for Subsidies, Charging & Tracking

The platform enables eligible residents to apply online for EV subsidies under the Chandigarh EV Policy, track their application status in real time, and access information on nearby public EV charging stations. The charging station locator is integrated with Google Maps to offer easy navigation.

Officials said the initiative aligns with Chandigarh’s goal to become a model green city and will significantly enhance citizen engagement in the transition to clean mobility.

In a key highlight of the meeting, the Chief Secretary acknowledged that Chandigarh has achieved saturation in solar photovoltaic (SPV) installations across all government buildings. This milestone reflects the city’s steady progress toward a low-carbon, energy-resilient future.

To maintain the performance of existing installations, CREST has been directed to conduct third-party audits of SPV projects that have been operational for five years or more. These audits are intended to ensure accountability and long-term reliability of public solar assets.

Verma also called for rigorous evaluation of innovative solar projects, including the proposed SPV systems over cycle tracks, with a focus on feasibility, aesthetics, and coordination with the Chief Architect of UT Chandigarh.

Rapid Growth in EV Adoption

The Union Territory has witnessed a sharp increase in electric vehicle registrations in recent years. While only 251 EVs were registered in 2021, the number surged to 783 in the first three months of 2025 alone. According to data from the Registration and Licensing Authority (RLA), more than 8,000 private EVs have been registered in Chandigarh from 2021 to April 2025.

The launch of the new EV portal is expected to further streamline the adoption process and incentivise more citizens to switch to electric mobility.

The newly launched portal is now live at www.chandigarhev.com.
