CEAT, an Indian tyre manufacturer, has partnered with CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions Limited (CleanMax) to source renewable power through a ~59 MW hybrid wind–solar project. CleanMax said in a press release that the renewable energy will be used for CEAT’s Halol facility in Gujarat and its Kanchipuram facility in Tamil Nadu under a group captive model.

CleanMax, a Brookfield-backed company, is currently one of the large renewable energy providers for the commercial and industrial sector in India (as of July 31, 2025). The hybrid structure of the projects is expected to combine the complementary generation profiles of wind and solar, ensuring a consistent energy output and a higher plant load factor (PLF). This approach also enhances grid stability, which is critical for energy-intensive manufacturing operations.

Together, the projects are expected to generate ~13.58 crore units of clean power annually. The project is also expected to increase CEAT’s clean power content to around 60%.

Tyre Companies Reliying on PPA To Meet RE Goals

In India, tyre companies are increasingly relying on power purchase agreements (PPAs) to meet their renewable energy requirements. For instance, Serentica Renewables, a leading renewable energy provider in India in 2024, entered into a long-term PPA with MRF, India’s largest tyre manufacturer, to supply clean power under the captive power framework. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) was created specifically to supply renewable energy to MRF, in which MRF has taken a captive minority stake, while the remaining stake is held by Serentica.

Using this structure, Serentica Renewables supplied clean energy from a 170 MW hybrid renewable energy project under development by the company. In this project, Serentica integrated both solar and wind generation to deliver round-the-clock renewable energy to MRF’s manufacturing facilities across India through the ISTS (Inter-State Transmission System) network.
