Bikaner: NHPC Commissions 214.28 MW Of Karnisar Solar Project By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Tue, Jul 1st, 2025 NHPC NHPC recently partially commissioned its Karnisar Solar Power Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. “After successful completion of the trial run on June 29, 2025, commercial operation of the fourth phase, with a part capacity of 53.57 MW, commenced from June 30, 2025,” NHPC said. With this, the cumulative operational capacity of the project has reached 214.28 MW out of the total 300 MW. The company said the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the remaining capacity will be announced in due course. The Karnisar Solar Power Plant Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, with a total investment of more than Rs. 1732 Crore, was inaugurated in 2024 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is now picking up pace. In April 2025, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) completed the trial run of a 241.77 MW capacity solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The company that under Phase I of the 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project was completed on March 31, 2025. During this period, NHPC connected the Karnisar project to the interstate transmission system (ISTS) and began injecting 31 MW of power into the grid. Later, it also announced the commencement of 107.14 MW of its 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Plant in Bikaner, Rajasthan, effective from April 12, 2025. The company previously said commercial operations of 100 MW in phases and would later announce that the full commissioning of the 300 MW project is expected to be completed by August 31, 2025. This project, with a total planned capacity of 1,000 MW, is scheduled for full commissioning by September 30, 2025. Solar Projects In Bikarner On The Rise Bikaner is witnessing a surge in solar projects. For instance, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), a SJVN subsidiary, has achieved commercial operation of a 100.25 MW segment out of its 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project as of June 30, 2025. The total capacity under commercial operation now stands at 501.02 MW, with the remaining expected to be commissioned soon, it added. The company, after winning the bid from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), is now moving closer to its commissioning. The firm through its Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Solarcraft Power India 17 Private Limited, has announced the signing of a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 150 MW solar project integrated with Energy Storage System (ESS) in the state of Rajasthan. The project, spread over around 1,300 acres in Bikaner—an area with some of the highest solar irradiation levels in India—is expected to generate approximately 780 million units of electricity annually.
