Australian Energy company AGL and renewable energy developer Someva Renewables have today announced a Joint Venture (JV) to develop Pottinger Energy Park, which is expected to consist of a 1.2 GW wind farm, 300 MW solar farm, and 500 MW / 2000 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The proposed Pottinger Energy Park is located 60 kilometers south of Hay and 75 kilometers north of Deniliquin in NSW and is located within the NSW Gazetted South West Renewable Energy Zone.

The Pottinger Energy Park project will be developed at a total cost of AUD 3.6 billion or USD 2.35bn.

According to a press release by Someva Renewables, the project is in the early stages of development with preliminary community engagement and planning application underway.

AGL Chief Operating Officer, Markus Brokhof, said the proposed project and partnership with Someva Renewables would represent a significant development in AGL’s renewable and firming portfolio build-out as the company transitions to a renewable future.

“We are exploring the development of a significant wind, solar, and battery project at the Pottinger Energy Park as we seek to accelerate options to develop projects that will contribute to our ambition of adding 12 GW of new renewable generation and firming capacity to our portfolio by the end of 2035,” he said.

Someva Renewables’ Managing Director, Jamie Chivers said, “The Pottinger Energy Park could play an important role in NSW’s energy transition by providing reliable renewable energy for up to 830,000 average NSW homes while also delivering an economic boost to the Riverina,” he said. further, he added, “As part of our co-design process, Someva has been engaging with the local community for over two years. During this time, we’ve been buoyed by the support the Pottinger Energy Park has received from local landowners, Traditional Owners, local businesses, local councils, and the broader community. We’re excited to be working with AGL on this project and look forward to delivering an industry-leading renewable energy project for NSW.”
