Ather Energy Launches 450X Electric Scooter in 16 new Cities

Electric two-wheeler startup Ather Energy has launched its electric 450X scooter in 16 additional cities in India.

Electric two-wheeler start-up Ather Energy has announced that it has launched its electric 450X scooter in 16 additional cities in India. The company has stated that it has launched the electric scooter in Mysore, Hubli, Jaipur, Indore, Panaji, Bhubaneswar, Nasik, Surat, Chandigarh, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Nagpur, Noida, Lucknow and Siliguri.

The Hero MotoCorp-backed startup currently has a presence in 11 locations across the country. The firm is now fast-tracking its plans to meet the national demand for the vehicle and by the first quarter of 2021, Ather 450X will be available across 27 cities in India, the company said in a statement.

“We are really excited about adding 16 new markets and we look forward to establishing ourselves in these cities in the coming months,” Ather Energy Chief Business Officer Ravneet Singh Phokela said.

This expansion is the result of the strong demand from the consumers, dealerships and also the test ride requests that the company has received since the launch of Ather 450X, he added. “We aim to introduce Ather products across the country and fulfill the needs of consumers by providing a premium offering,” Phokela noted.

The Ather 450X is an upgrade from its predecessor Ather 450.

In November, we had reported that the electric two-wheeler firm had raised just over USD 35 million in its latest funding round which was led by Flipkart co-founder Sachin Bansal’s investment of USD 23 million. Besides Bansal, key shareholder Hero MotoCorp has also invested USD 12 million as a part of the Series D round in the EV startup.

According to a company release, the latest round of investment would allow it to accelerate its expansion plans and speed up the deliveries of its electric scooter, Ather 450X.

“Post the successful launch of our new product line, we are now looking forward to delivering the vehicles and seeing them across all cities. The pandemic has changed the landscape of personal transport and we hope that with high-performance alternatives available people will choose electric vehicles for their daily commute,” Tarun Mehta, co-founder and CEO, Ather Energy had said at the time.
