Arevon Energy, a US-based renewable energy developer, has fully commissioned its Eland Solar plus Storage Project in Mojave, Kern County. With over USD 2 billion in total investment, the two-phase project now stands as one of the largest integrated solar and storage facilities in the nation.
Together, Eland 1 and Eland 2 will supply enough energy to power more than 266,000 homes annually, accounting for nearly 7 percent of Los Angeles’ electricity demand.
Project Specifications: Solar and Storage at Scale
The Eland Solar-plus-Storage Project has a solar generation capacity of 758 MWdc, paired with 300 MW / 1,200 MWh of battery energy storage. The facility includes 1.36 million solar panels and 172 lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, all engineered for high efficiency and long-term durability.
The batteries were locally manufactured in Lathrop, California, supporting domestic supply chains. Eland 1 began commercial operations in late 2024, followed by Eland 2’s full-scale launch in 2025. Arevon will own and operate the project across both phases.
Supporting LA’s 100 Percent Clean Energy Goal
Mayor Karen Bass of Los Angeles said, “The Eland Solar-plus-Storage Project will push LA’s clean energy share above 60 percent — a major step toward our 2035 goal of 100 percent clean energy.”
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and Glendale Water & Power (GWP) will receive the energy through long-term power purchase agreements managed by the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA).
LADWP CEO Janisse Quiñones added, “The Eland project represents the scale, innovation, and reliability we need to meet our targets.”
The project is expected to deliver over USD 36 million in payments to local governments over its lifetime, while also contributing to job creation and clean energy innovation in California.
Kevin Smith, CEO of Arevon, said, “Eland is the largest project in our portfolio. It shows how we can deliver reliable, affordable clean energy at scale.”
Arevon’s Growing Portfolio
Arevon currently operates over 3.7 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity across the United States, backed by more than USD 5 billion in capital investments.
In addition to the Eland project, Arevon is actively advancing several new developments. These include the Peregrine Energy Storage Project and the Vikings Solar-plus-Storage Project, both designed to enhance grid flexibility and resilience. The company is also progressing with the Condor and Nighthawk Energy Storage Projects, further strengthening its presence in utility-scale storage.
To support future energy delivery, Arevon has secured long-term offtake agreements for its upcoming Cormorant and Avocet Energy Storage Projects.
Notably, 57 percent of California’s electricity now comes from renewable sources. The Eland project further boosts the state’s push to phase out fossil fuels and achieve 100 percent clean energy by 2035.
