Apraava Commissions Rajasthan Transmission Project Paving RE Evacuation from 20 GW Zones Photograph: (Archive)
Apraava Energy has commissioned the 400 kV Fatehgarh IV Transmission Line and a 400/220 kV pooling substation in Barmer, Rajasthan, strengthening infrastructure for the evacuation of renewable energy (RE) from the state’s large renewable zones.
The project, comprising a 22 km transmission line, is part of the transmission scheme designed for power evacuation from Renewable Energy Zones (REZ) in Rajasthan with a planned capacity of 20 GW under Phase-III Part A1. The development is expected to support India’s broader target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.
Fatehgarh IV Transmission Limited
Implemented through Fatehgarh IV Transmission Limited, the asset has a transmission capacity of 2.5 GW of renewable power supported by five 500 MVA transformers. The new transmission line connects to Apraava’s Fatehgarh-III substation, improving renewable power evacuation capability from the Jaisalmer–Barmer region, one of India’s key renewable energy clusters.
The company said the project was completed under challenging conditions, including extreme weather, land acquisition hurdles, right-of-way (ROW) constraints, and temporary demobilisation due to border-related tensions. Despite these challenges, the project was among the fastest completed transmission schemes under Rajasthan’s REZ Phase-III programme, the firm said.
Commenting on the commissioning, Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, Managing Director of Apraava Energy, said the project represents the company’s first greenfield transmission project of this scale. He noted that the asset will strengthen Rajasthan’s transmission network and enable reliable dispatch of renewable energy to distant demand centres.
Apraava's Power Transmission Assets
Apraava currently operates three power transmission assets spanning around 516 km across Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, with a combined substation capacity of about 3.5 GW. The company also has three greenfield transmission projects under construction, covering approximately 470 km of transmission lines and grid substations with a combined capacity of about 8 GW.
These projects include around 430 km of 400 kV and 765 kV double-circuit transmission lines and a 4x1500 MVA 765/400 kV grid pooling station in Rajasthan, along with about 40 km of 765 kV double-circuit transmission lines and a 2x1500 MVA 765/400 kV grid substation in Madhya Pradesh.
Rajasthan RE Assets
In Rajasthan, Apraava also operates three wind power projects with a combined capacity of over 250 MW and is developing three solar projects totalling around 550 MW. The company’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) business is also active in the state with an order to install over 1.1 million smart meters.
Beyond energy projects, Apraava has been supporting water conservation initiatives in the Thar Desert region and programmes aimed at reintegrating around 3,000 out-of-school girls into mainstream education in the Fatehgarh block.
