Andhra Pradesh announced the winners of its 1.2 GW rooftop solar auction, organised under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, highlighting significant progress toward expanding residential clean energy access in the state.
Major Allocations and Developer Participation
The auction drew participation from various developers, with Kosol Energie securing the largest share at 291.54 MW.
Other major winners included Rotomag Enertec (139.53 MW), Sadbhav Futuretech (90 MW), Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals (77.4 MW), and Surya Cons (60.27 MW).
Several mid-sized firms, such as Brihaspathi Technologies, Junna Solar Systems, Sunworks Energy, VSA Infra Projects, and Sree Sai Electronics, won between 12 MW and 18 MW each. Collectively, additional bidders were awarded 71.86 MW in the tender that was floated in July 2025.
A diverse group of other companies will also implement rooftop projects - Sungrace Energy Solutions, Environ Energy Tech, Jahnavi Engineering and Consultancy, Surya Power Tree, Servotech Renewable Power System, RayPower Solutions, Cheriesh Power Technologies, and several more.
Notably, all selected developers must install rooftop solar systems on residential buildings owned by Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe consumers, underlining the scheme’s commitment to inclusive clean energy access.
Project Scope and Implementation Standards
The scope for the selected bidders involves comprehensive turnkey delivery, covering design, engineering, supply, transport, installation, testing, and commissioning.
Each developer is responsible for five years of operations and maintenance. Project execution carries a tight timeline of six months, pressing for rapid deployment of new systems.
Central financial assistance from MNRE is contingent on the use of domestically manufactured solar cells and modules that meet strict quality and warranty criteria, including an eight-year product warranty and guaranteed performance retention of 90 percent after ten years and 80 percent after twenty-five years.
Accelerating State Renewable Growth
Andhra Pradesh’s rooftop solar push complements its broader clean energy ambitions.
The state, via Hero Future Energies, recently signed an MoU for 4 GW of renewable projects across multiple districts. SECI and the Andhra Pradesh government also announced a partnership for a 1,200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) alongside a 50 MW hybrid solar project.
2025 has seen a major renewal in momentum behind PM Suryaghar, which has been led by Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerela and Uttar Pradesh until now. The addition of more states pushing the scheme could see just rooftop additions cross the 5 GW mark this year, and potentially, 8 GW next year, which would be welcome news for the solar ecosystem.
